VISITORS TO FRANCE: TIPS
Arriving at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris
After your long trip with a jet lag, the first thing you have to do is to figure out how to get to your hotel the most effective and economical way. The airport in Paris is about 40 miles away from downtown. You have several options to get to your hotel in downtown Paris: none of them is very straight forward!
The most economical way is the RER B train. Travel time is approximately 25 minutes to Gare du Nord station and 45 minutes to Denfert-Rochereau, with stops in between. The train intervals are 10 to15 minutes, so you won’t have to wait too long. If you don’t want to hassle with all your luggage in the subway, go to Gare du Nord, and from there take a cab to your hotel. Gare du Nord is one of the biggest train station in Paris, and you won’t have any problem to find a taxi.
The ride from the airport in Paris to downtown is going to cost you about 8.2 euros. My first tip would be to buy before your trip a card called The card gives you unlimited usage on Paris subway system and buses and unlimited transportation anywhere in the greater Paris region including Versailles, Disneyland Paris.
The second alternative is to go by bus with the Air France coaches. You can either buy tour tickets at the Air France coach’s ticket counter or directly from the driver. The cost is 20euro round trip and the coach will drop you right on the Champs Elysees.
Air France coaches are a popular way to get downtown from the airport. The trip is longer that using the train (45 minutes), but it’s also more comfortable and you have the chance to drive through the city and have your first ride as a tourist.
The third option to get to your hotel is to book a taxi at the airport. Like in all airports in the World, do not accept proposals from unlicensed cabs. You’re going to pay more and there is a strong chance that the cab driver don’t have insurance. Just follow the taxi signs in the terminal and walk there. A one way ride costs about 50euro and you don’t need to leave a tip as it’s included in the price.
And of course if your hotel offers a shuttle, it’s by far the most easiest and relaxing way to get downtown. In other hand, to take the train is already an experience as it’s a regular train and people living in Paris use it as well. It’s up to you to decide if you want to experience your trip from the very first minute, or if you prefer to relax before discovering the city.

Again better deals if you buy apart of your airline ticket. Airlines companies are not insurance companies: they take their shares !
