Sheenaawa is a new very special design. Sheenaawa is one the language from Nigeria with probably no speakers left. Only two elderly men were able to remember words of Sheenaawa ( or Sheni )back in the 70's
At present, the Sheni language is nearly extinct and was replaced by Hausa.
We wanted to pay a tribute to this language leaving this World without making the headline news.
The lace is fully embroiderred, but with a light stitching technic. Looking at the stitches, they are delicate, like a print left from a past memory.
That's how we wanted the design to be to represent the Sheenaawa language : not there any more, but the culture behind this language is still alive.
No mistake : the design is light and delicate, but it is also smart and gorgeous.
With the design, we hope to give the Sheenaawa language the right tribute and revival of this beautiful name.
